Drawing their influences from bands such as Joy Division and The Smiths, Friday's featured artist is British
indie band, Spiders. Originally known as The Subs, the band have steadily increased their fanbase and their discography
and are currently poised for their assault on the British Charts. Having already become a mainstay on the club scene in the
heartland of the British indie rock scene, 2011 saw the first official single release from the band and with an album in the
pipeline, mainstream success is sure to follow. Read all about them on their profile page, and find other artist profiles in the Artist section.
Today's
tracks are another blend of all sorts from many of the usual suspects. Regulars to the section include John Coltrane - with
'But Not For Me' from his game-changing album, My Favourite Things - along with tracks from Bob Marley, Tracy Chapman
and Regina Spektor. Noteworthy inclusions today include the sublime cover of Radiohead's 'Lucky' by Warren Haynes
at Bonaroo, Sonic Youth's take on The Carpenters' 'Superstar', Lindisfarne landmark 'Meet Me On The Corner'
and a gorgeous acoustic version of 'The Circle' by 90's modsters, Ocean Colour Scene. Stereolab's 'Lo
Boob Oscillator' and Reef's often overlooked gem, 'Consideration' complete today's playlist. See previous
weekly playlists in the Mix Tape section.
